HEALING NEGLECt BY BEING A STAR
By Rebecca Conran CHHC
On June 30th Jupiter finally leaves its year-and-a-half journey through Cancer and enters the realm of Leo. This is exuberant. These are BIG feelings. This is drama and performance, pleasure and fun, pride and the fall! As Jupiter expands us, it opens us up to meaning. In Leo our self-expression, pleasure, playfulness and creativity must be part of our life philosophy.
“Look at me! Look at me!” we’ve all heard a little child during play and performance. This is part of our inherent nature, to be witnessed by others. We can do that in many different ways; it doesn’t have to be that we are singers and dancers. However, the need to be seen is part of our human makeup. Jupiter in Leo will expand that need within us, and it will expose where we don’t feel seen, heard or connected to authentic expression.
One factor that will be up for healing is that of neglect. Many people suffer with this ‘silent trauma.' They call it a 'silent trauma' because nothing happened to the child; they weren’t beaten or screamed at, but that was exactly what was wrong. Nothing happened. No one was there to witness, to see, to hear, to make the child feel like a real living person with valuable emotions and ideas. Instead, the neglected child goes through life never quite knowing why they are people-pleasing or have an extreme need for any attention good or bad. Neglected people often allow themselves to be hated too, because any kind of connection feels more alive than nothing at all. Jupiter is here to bring luck to your neglect via Leo. This is your time to bring that child in the shadows out onto center stage.
Issues around guilt are sure to manifest as our society wrongly places the majority of its positive feelings on productivity and usefulness, not accessing your childlike wonder! But being silly is useful: laughing, singing in the car, coloring instead of watching TV, and acting in a play instead of just watching one.
We need real pleasure in our lives, not just gratification. Gratification is the booty call that has shame pour in the next day, but pleasure is the smell of the sea, the feel of the warm sun, the hug of a friend, and the taste of a juicy apple.
One of the biggest positive attributes that can be learned through this period is also the courage to love and be vulnerable, the courage to open your heart. With Jupiter in Cancer, we could access more of the hurts that cause defensiveness within us. With Jupiter in Leo, we can choose a philosophy of love and openheartedness regardless of our painful experiences.
In our social media and online-obsessed cultures, we will definitely see an expansion around attention-seeking. We want attention, we need attention, but what kind of attention are we pursuing?
Additionally, are we paying attention? What kind of attention spans are we working with? To access our true authenticity, we need to be grounded and able to connect with our emotions in a flowing way. If we remain in an anesthetized or dissociated state, we won’t be able to cultivate attention to the right things for us.
How do you know if you're getting this transit right?
You feel a bit exposed. You find yourself wearing your heart on your sleeve and putting yourself out there. Sharing the true self feels scary, or at least uncomfortable; embrace the fear and move through it anyway.
In Leo we are pursuing a sunny, friendly, fun and spontaneous relationship with life; this is a social Jupiter. We are letting ourselves take the spotlight sometimes, and we are realizing that it’s important for us. Artists in particular need audience participation; it’s part of creating, for others to witness what you’ve made. Not everyone will be a fan, but anyone might be moved.
Finally, remember to applaud your friends, your loved ones, and anyone you feel proud of or appreciate. Post a comment on someone's artwork and reach out to the musician you love and say thank you. Be a witness to your fellow man. Ask yourself, am I seeing and hearing others as I wish to be seen and heard?
As Jupiter expands what it touches, look to where Leo falls in your birth chart and any planets and aspects it makes for you.
Shadow aspects to be mindful of this Jupiter season:
Negative attention-seeking, where your self-confidence hinges on others' approval.
Spending and living beyond your means, Leo feels it’s royalty; honor your beer budget, not your champagne taste.
Flash-in-the-pan love affairs. Sex will be on the rise during this time, and if you are in the business of exploring relationships and sexuality, this is a great time to have fun with the process. However, Leo is really looking for a long-term partner to be proud of, so you can save yourself from a lot of bullshit if you stick to your values right now when it comes to dating and don’t lower your standards for people you feel any red flag energy from.
Drama & Gossip Addiction. Our culture has normalized human bullshit to a very tall extent through rabid production of reality TV, prioritizing and editing to heighten our emotional and chemical reactions. This is a horrible way to live, and we have to actively disconnect from where we’ve become addicted to the chemical reactions that come from drama and gossip. Compassionate, loving people can have fun and banter; they can rise to conflict too, but they don’t cultivate a need for toxic connections with and about others.
Excessive Pride & Arrogance. You should be self-confident, but a superior complex is not a good look.
